GPFCLL Donation to Front Line Workers

We hope all our families are staying well and safe as we continue to combat this virus.  While we wish we were out practicing on the diamonds with our teams, preparing for parades, and planning our traditional opening day ceremonies, we know that we are doing a far greater good by putting that on pause for the time being.  On that note, let us share some important updates and news.

Currently, we are still planning on having a season.  We are working under the guidance from Little League International, the city of Grosse Pointe Farms, and the city of Grosse Pointe for when and how that can happen.  Rest assured we will not start until we have been given proper clearance by the state and have a plan in place to keep our players, volunteers, and fans as safe as possible.

In the meantime, we wanted to show our gratitude to those working so selflessly on the frontlines.  Those who have generously donated to our league in the past and would greatly appreciate our support now.  We, as a board, decided to donate $20 per registration from our Spring 2020 season to honor those heroes.  While this amounted to a sum of $6,400, we knew we could do more.  Our league will be donating $10,000 directly to two important local funds at Ascension St. John Hospital.  The first is the Covid-19 Fund and the second is the Associate Hardship Fund.

The Covid 19 Fund has been established to help Ascension St John hospitals with specific internal needs for associates other than PPE. To date they have purchased washable laundry bags for their caregivers, are currently raising funds for associates to eat free of charge in their cafeterias and renting portable shower trailers.

The Associate Hardship Fund provides the ability to stand together as One Ascension to help their associates in need. For many caregivers, the current environment is causing financial challenges as well as personal sacrifices. To help address this, they are using their Associate Hardship Fund to help their caregivers cover extra personal costs incurred during these difficult times. Funds are being used to help those with emergent needs such as:

 • Eviction or foreclosure of associates’ primary residence

 • Medication expenses for associates, spouse, or dependents

 • Funeral expenses for member of immediate family

 • Utility shut off/necessary utilities

 • Groceries

 • Furnace, air conditioning, water, and auto repairs, etc.

Grosse Pointe Farms-City Little League is proud to be able to give back to an institution that has supported our league for several years.  If anyone would like to donate to these funds on their own, please go to:

We thank you for your continued patience and support in this time of pause in all our lives.  Feel free to reach out to [email protected] with any questions you may have.  We look forward to when we can sit in the warm sunshine, smelling freshly cut grass, listening to the crack of a bat, and the pop of a glove.  Until then, stay strong and stay healthy!
